Through Colored Glass
-
Alaska Airlines and the fabrication team at Bullseye Studio in Portland, OR. Budget, operational demands, art program goals and artistic vision aligned to provide parameters for the successful iteration of the project, completed ahead of schedule and beyond expectation. -
Tidewater Glacier. Wish You Were Here is an expansive kiln formed glass installation consisting of 13 unique compositions, each representing a distinct ecosystem that is a part of the greater Cascadia bioregion. -
Montana. The 13 artworks are distributed throughout Sectors 1 and 2 of the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on the Promenade level. The artworks are installed inside of the exterior curtain wall with each composition being separated into 3 horizontal panels to fit within the existing structure. Each one of the panels consists of 4 layers of kiln formed and laminated art glass. -
Outer Coast. Each of the artworks consists of two distinct compositions in translucent glass, layered one in front of the other, creating depth through overlapping colors and forms. They are dynamic, colorful and translucent, filtering ambient exterior light and infusing the interior of the terminal space with a rich glow. -
Eastern Rivers. Each artwork conveys a sense of the niche it represents, without being overtly representational. The works are meant to be calming and uplifting in character, serving as oases of tranquility amidst the bustle of travel. -
Shrub Steppe. Individually, each artwork stands alone, evoking a unique experience, just as a visit to the source would be. Together the artworks tell a story of rich interaction, how the diversity of flora and fauna, geology and humanity come together to form this special region known as Cascadia. -
St. Helens. Wish You Were Here was conceived, designed and executed through a two-year process of collaboration with stakeholders including the Port of Seattle Buildings and Art Teams.
