Ethnic Studies Arrives

Lewis & Clark College will offer a new minor in ethnic studies beginning in fall 2006. 

“Exploring how ethnic and racial identities have historically developed is crucial for understanding today’s increasingly multicultural and interconnected world,” said Elliott Young, associate professor of history and director of the ethnic studies program.

The interdisciplinary program draws on faculty expertise from history, communication, psychology, international affairs, sociology and anthropology, French and Hispanic studies, music, and education. Among the course choices are Race and Ethnicity in Global perspective; Race and Ethnicity in America; Communication and Culture; Cross-Cultural Psychology; Global Inequality; The Holocaust in Comparative Perspective; Modern Cuba; Race, Culture, and Power; and world music.
