The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) awarded Andrew Bernstein, associate professor of history, a $6,000 summer stipend. This highly competitive program provides scholars with funding for two months of full-time research and writing.

This award enables Bernstein to spend the summer of 2012 working on his upcoming  book, “Fuji: A Mountain in the Making.” Bernstein hopes that the book will “resituate and augment conventional views of Fuji to create something new: a comprehensive ‘environmental biography’ of the mountain that does it justice as an actor in, and product of, both the physical world and the human imagination.”
