International Affairs Symposium

In April, Lewis & Clark hosted its 50th International Affairs Symposium, titled Global Rifts: Dynamic Relationships Among States, Societies, and the World System.
The international list of guest speakers included Ralph Nader, political activist, author, and attorney, who debated the future of military force in international peace and security with Jamie Fly, director of the Foreign Policy Initiative.
Additional sessions—all with two opposing speakers—focused on the future of civilizations in conflict, the implications of free and fair trade for global development, the utility of violence in social movements, the possible dangers of demographic divides, and forecasts for diplomacy in the wake of natural disasters.
