L&C rallies to support international students

L&C rallies to support international students

The Office of International Student Services and the Institute for the Study of American Language and Culture (ISALC) played a pivotal role in reassuring international students of their safety during the aftermath of September 11. “I am happy to say I have heard of no negative incidents taking place on Lewis & Clark’s campus,” said Greg Caldwell, associate dean of students and director of international student services.

“Eventually, 19 Arab students, many of whom had just begun their studies at Lewis & Clark, did choose to return home, due mostly to the urging of their parents,” said Caldwell. The College granted those students a full refund of their tuition.

Only two Arab students have returned to the College, but ISALC is expecting three or four new students from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to begin classes in March.
