Powerful IA Symposium

In April, Lewis & Clark hosted its 51st International Affairs Symposium, titled Power: Balance, Order, and Flux.
The international list of guest speakers included Barney Frank, former U.S. representative from Massachusetts, who debated military retrenchment or escalation with Walter Lohman, director of the Heritage Foundation’s Asian Studies Center.
Additional sessions—all with two opposing speakers—focused on assessing the scope of cyber threats, weighing the security implications of failed states, seeking solutions to intrastate ethnic conflict, negotiating regional collective security, and the role of corporations in the developing world.
