Beautiful Brains

A collaboration between a biology professor and her students is yielding stunning results.

Some of the most visually striking research into neural networks is being done here. Assistant Professor of Biology Tamily Weissman-Unni mentors students as they use fluorescing neurons to observe how brains behave.

A participant in the international effort to build a complete wiring diagram of the brain, Weissman-Unni came to Lewis & Clark from Harvard. “I’m so impressed with the students here; they truly wish to be challenged and go in-depth, not just earn a grade,” says Weissman-Unni. “They are easily as smart and talented as students I worked with at Harvard.”
