Women’s Rowing Puts Together Fantastic Season

Women's rowing celebrates after winning their first NWC Title in program history.

This past spring, women’s rowing put together one of their best seasons in program history. The “Dub Squad,” as they refer to themselves, won the program’s first-ever Northwest Conference Title and earned their first trip since 2006 to the NCAA DIII National Championship Regatta.

The Pioneers opened the season by dominating conference foes Pacific Lutheran University, University of Puget Sound, and Pacific University at the Logger Invitational and never looked back.

The second varsity boat (2V8+), which included five novice walk-ons this spring, won every race they competed in against NCAA Division III teams during the regular season, and the varsity boat (1V8+) only lost once in DIII competition.

At the NWC Championships, Lewis & Clark won all four women’s races, including a thrilling comeback victory in the varsity race. The Pioneers came from behind in the final 250 meters (2,000-meter race) to edge Puget Sound by just over .50 seconds.

Racing at Nationals for the first time since 2006, both L&C boats won the Petite Finals. In the 2V8+ race, the Pioneers went head-to-head with Washing- ton College (Maryland) and defeated the Shorewomen by over 18 seconds.The varsity 8+ boat took to the water next and downed Washington College by over 10 seconds. Lewis & Clark finished seventh overall, out of eight teams, to cap off a tremendous season.
