Last fall, Lewis & Clark put together its best football season since 2011. L&C went 5-5 and 4-3 in the Northwest Conference to finish the season tied for third. The team’s four conference wins resulted in a tie for the most victories in a single season since 1991.
The Pioneers knocked off two opponents for the first time in more than a decade. Lewis & Clark trailed George Fox University 28-10 heading into the fourth quarter, but then senior quarterback Trey Morris came off the bench to lead L&C to a thrilling 37-31 double-overtime win over the Bruins. Morris connected with fellow senior Elijah McGee for a 25-yard touchdown pass on the second play of overtime to secure the win. The victory marked L&C’s second-ever win over George Fox and the first since the Bruins reinstated their program in 2014. Two weeks later, Lewis & Clark stunned Pacific University 51-35 during the Boxers’ homecoming game. Morris threw four touchdowns passes, and senior Elijah Washington ran for 160 yards and two touchdowns in L&C’s first win over Pacific since 2011.
Lewis & Clark wrapped up the season by destroying rivals University of Puget Sound and Willamette University. Football won their final two games and scored over 60 points in back-to-back games for the first time in program history. At the end of the season, 14 players were named to the NWC All-Conference Teams. McGee and Washington were each named to the NWC First Team, and Devon Guest, Nathan Lien, and Thomas Reagan earned NWC Second Team honors. First-year kicker Thien Hoang earned D3football.com All-Region accolades after setting the single-season record for points by a kicker with 68.
