Outstanding Alumni to Be Honored

Each year, Lewis & Clark honors alumni from the College of Arts and Sciences for their outstanding accomplishments and community service. We’re proud to announce the 2010 honorees, who will receive their awards at the Alumni Honors Banquet on February 20.
Distinguished Alumna: Sandra Sunrising Osawa BA ’64
Sandra Sunrising Osawa has produced and written 16 documentaries that have aired on PBS, the Learning Channel, and NBC. A member of the Makah Indian Nation, Osawa’s films provide an alternative image of American Indian people and issues. She and her husband, Yasu, own a production company in Seattle.
Outstanding Young Alumna: Sadna Samaranayake BA ’01
Originally from Sri Lanka, Sadna Samaranayake cofounded the Sri Lanka Foundation in response to the aftermath of the Asian tsunami of December 26, 2004. She is partner and director of InSiteLogic, a web solutions firm in New York City.
Donald G. Balmer Citation (for service to the college): John Wright BS ’83
John Wright has played a key role in recruiting international students for Lewis & Clark— even assisting with financial aid. He has also mentored students and helped them find career opportunities in Asia. Most recently, he was instrumental in the success of the reunions of the class of 1983 and the overseas study program to Nepal.
Pioneer Alumni Leadership Award: Minnesota Chapter of Lewis & Clark Alumni
Laura Provinzino BA ’98 and Jamie Forman BA ’81 will accept this award on behalf of the Minnesota chapter. During the past five years, chapter volunteers have worked tirelessly to promote, improve, and celebrate their alma mater. Their efforts have played a vital role in the success of annual events sponsored by Lewis & Clark.
