Gender Studies Symposium

In March, Lewis & Clark hosted the 29th annual Gender Studies Symposium. The event—which included three days of lectures, roundtable discussion, workshops, and performances—was organized around the theme of the science of gender and sex. Neuroscientist Lise Eliot discussed sex differences; sex therapist and activist Leonore Tiefer addressed the medicalization of sexuality; historian Jennifer Brier presented on AIDS activism and gay liberation; and anthropologist Amy Parish discussed Darwinian feminism.

International Affairs Symposium

A debate between Paul Wolfowitz, former deputy defense secretary, and Merrill McPeak, former U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff, drew an audience of more than 600 to the Agnes Flanagan Chapel on April 5. The debate was the keynote session of the 48th annual International Affairs Symposium. The three-day event brought together leading experts to discuss a series of topics around the theme of global disorder. Wolfowitz and McPeak debated the promotion of democracy worldwide.
