Investing in the Future: Exciting Upgrades for Olin!
Focus Areas: Olin Physics-Chemistry Building
Construction Starts: Summer 2025
Anticipated Completion: 8/30/2025
Big things are happening in Olin Hall! With nearly $4 million in capital improvements, we’re making essential upgrades that will improve safety, efficiency, and research capabilities for years to come.
Raising the Roof – Literally!
Our Roof Phase 2 project will replace the existing system with a cutting-edge inverted membrane, ensuring long-term durability. We’re also enhancing ventilation efficiency by tackling this upgrade alongside Olin Lab 116’s new ventilation system.
A Fresh Look: Olin Exterior Paint
It’s been decades since Olin got a fresh coat of paint, and we’re changing that! A new paint job not only boosts curb appeal but also protects the building from the elements.
Strengthening Safety: Fireproofing & Waterproofing
We’re replacing fireproofing material in multiple areas where it was lost during earlier renovations. At the same time, we’re waterproofing the Olin Utilidor Tunnel to prevent flooding between Albany and Olin.
Critical System Upgrades: Staying Leak-Free & Efficient
Several essential systems are getting much-needed upgrades, including:
✅ Control Valve & Reheat Coil Replacement – Replacing end-of-life components to prevent leaks and improve heating efficiency. This improvement will also allow for a future decarbonization by pulling off the steam plant and using heat pump technology.
✅ Elevator Modernization – Olin’s elevator is our highest priority for ADA accessibility and reliability.
Advancing Science: Quantum Physics Lab & Olin 116 Renovations
State-of-the-art research needs state-of-the-art facilities! The Quantum Physics Research Lab is getting major electrical to support high-powered lasers, electromagnets, and other cutting-edge equipment. Olin 116 is also getting a full transformation, with new lab casework, upgraded gas and water lines, advanced AV technology, and HVAC modifications.
Restoring the Greenhouse: A Breath of Fresh Air
Our Olin Greenhouse Repairs will ensure that vital research and teaching spaces remain safe and functional. From vent and water system fixes to new shades and exhaust fans, we’re bringing this green space back to life!
These upgrades are part of our commitment to providing a top-tier learning and research environment for students and faculty. Stay tuned for more updates as Olin gets the modern, high-performance infrastructure it deserves!
