Paid Holidays
At Lewis & Clark College, we recognize the importance of time off to celebrate major holidays. We provide paid holidays for benefits-eligible employees who work 20 or more hours per week to support rest, celebration, and work-life balance.
Holiday Pay Eligibility & Guidelines
-
Employees must be in paid status on both:
- The last scheduled workday before the holiday
- The first scheduled workday after the holiday
- Paid status includes receiving regular, sick, or vacation pay.
- Holidays that fall during an employee’s vacation or sick leave will not be deducted from accrued leave balances.
Holiday Pay for Full-Time & Part-Time Employees
- Full-time employees receive 7.5 hours of holiday pay per holiday, regardless of their scheduled hours on that day.
- Part-time employees (0.53 FTE or greater) receive a prorated holiday pay amount based on their FTE.
-
Part-time employees who receive fewer holiday hours than their normal schedule can:
- Adjust their work hours on another day with supervisor approval.
- Use vacation time to make up the difference.
- Employees who receive full holiday pay for their normal weekly hours cannot use additional vacation or sick leave if it results in overtime or exceeding their scheduled hours for that week.
Holiday Pay for Employees Who Work on a Holiday
-
Non-exempt employees who work on a holiday may:
- Receive regular pay in addition to holiday pay, or
- Take an alternate day off within the same workweek, as determined by the College.
- Exempt employees who work on a holiday do not receive additional compensation.
Union Employees
Lewis & Clark provides paid holidays for union employees in accordance with the LCCSSA Collective Bargaining Agreement and Teamsters Contract. Paid holidays are based on the policy above, with special considerations based on each agreement, listed below:
