Hi! My name is Jovana, and I come from Bosnia and Herzegovina (specifically Republika Srpska). I just finished two incredible years at UWC East Africa in Tanzania. Being part of this school helped me not only learn more about myself, but also understand other cultures and perspectives through close friendships with people from all over the world.

At Lewis & Clark I plan to major in International Relations and World Languages. Diplomacy has always intrigued me, especially coming from a country with a complex and diverse political background, so I’m eager to explore ways to help strengthen both internal and external relations. And of course, I believe none of that is possible without communication. Something I learned at UWC is that understanding each other, especially across languages, is key (even if it’s hard sometimes!). I chose L&C because it reminds me so much of UWC with its diverse and engaged student body and all the amazing opportunities available. Also, I absolutely love the beautiful campus (and I must admit I’m also excited about the rain!).

Outside of the classroom, I’m passionate about music and have been part of choirs for over 10 years. Singing brings me joy, and I hope to continue at L&C. I’m also a dedicated volleyball player, always giving my all and I loving the adrenaline. Traveling is another big part of who I am. As a Balkan, I’ve naturally explored nearby countries like Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and I’ve also visited Malta and Greece. But the most cherished experience by far has been living in Tanzania. I’ve never been to the U.S. before, so I’m really excited to explore it.

One big goal I have while at L&C is to grow both academically and personally. Interestingly, I also want to learn to sing songs in as many languages as possible (even if it’s tricky and my pronunciation isn’t perfect at first!). I also hope to have many small, cozy moments with friends along the way.
