Making an Artistic Impression
In an old barn once used to store hops for beer making, Tracy Schlapp listened to stories told by creative thinkers. Periodically, she stopped to hand-set wooden type onto her antique letterpress. After inking the type, she pulled the press’s handle, churning out broadsides, one print at a time, based on the speakers’ ideas.
The Timbers Goalkeeper for Digital Media
Portland Timbers games are rousing affairs, especially at the north end of the stadium. Whenever the soccer team scores a goal, mascot Timber Joey fires up his chainsaw to cut off a slab of wood from a fallen log. At the end of the game, players ceremoniously gather on the field and hoist the slabs over their heads as the fans roar.

In 1970, Platoon Sgt. Roger Ferland was leading a patrol in the jungle near Da Nang, Vietnam. Moving stealthily through the brush, he heard an ominous click before an explosion blew him into the air. The blast severed both his legs and shattered his right arm.

In 2014, the Graduate School of Education and Counseling celebrated 30 years of preparing teachers and counselors for lives of service. In honor of this landmark event, the graduate school hosted a celebration for alumni, donors, faculty, students, and friends on October 22 in the South Chapel of the graduate school campus.
San Francisco Black and Orange Party
On October 1, President Barry Glassner joined alumni, parents, and friends for a Black and Orange Party at the Sierra Club headquarters
in San Francisco. Similar events were held in 50+ cities around the globe. Black and Orange Parties are held annually to welcome the incoming class, swap business information, and make new connections.
