Measles/MMR Immunization Requirement

PurposeTo minimize potential for communicable disease outbreaks on campus and to comply with Oregon state law.

Measles/MMR Immunization Verification Procedure:

All incoming full-time students born on or after January 1, 1957 who are taking any in-person classes will be required to meet the following requirement:

    1. Dates of two doses of measles or measles/mumps/rubella (MMR) vaccine must be submitted via the Health Information Portal 2 weeks prior to the registration date for the student’s second semester of enrollment.
      1. Students are strongly encouraged to submit dates of immunization prior to their first day of classes in their first semester.
      2. Students on a non-immigrant visa MUST complete the requirement prior to the first day of attending classes in their first semester.
        1. Students not compliant with this requirement will not be allowed to attend classes until the requirement is satisfied.
        2. An exception is given to these students if the first measles dose was given within 30 days of the start of classes; in this case, the second dose must be given prior to the start of the second semester.
    2. Any of the following records may be accepted as adequate proof of two doses of measles vaccine:
      1. Written documentation by the student, a health care practitioner, or an authorized representative of the local health department of the month, day and year of each dose.
        1. First dose must be on or after the first birthday.
        2. Second dose must be administered a minimum of 24 days after the first dose;
      2. For students born prior to 1984 with no available date for the first dose: provide written documentation by student, health care practitioner, or an authorized representative of the local health department of the month, day and year of the second dose on or after December, 1989;
      3. An unsigned record printout from the statewide Oregon immunization information system, ALERT IIS
        1. Note: this will be automatically retrieved upon enrollment and registration in the Health Information Portal, if available;
      4. An unsigned record printout from a computer system approved by the Public Health Division as specified in OAR 333-050-0060(5)
        1. Note: This can be sought electronically for most US states via the health information portal under “immunization”;
    3. Medical or Nonmedical Exemption: Students may submit documentation of a medical exemption, nonmedical exemption or immunity in lieu of meeting the measles vaccination requirement. Signing for a nonmedical exemption requires documentation of a signature of a health care practitioner that the practitioner has reviewed with the student the risks and benefits of immunization, or a certificate verifying that the student has completed a vaccine educational module approved by the Public Health Division.

Students not completing the above requirement before registration of their second semester will experience a hold on their student account so they cannot register for the next semester.

The College must report compliance with Oregon law related to measles immunization to the Oregon Health Authority annually in March.

All students will be provided with information about vaccine-preventable diseases known to occur in individuals between ages 16 and 21, such as tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, HPV, meningitis and influenza.

Tuberculosis Disease Screening Recommendation

For the health of the individual and our community, students who were born in a country with a high incidence of tuberculosis (TB) disease or who have lived in, traveled to, or emigrated from a country with a high incidence of active tuberculosis disease are encouraged to seek verification of non-active TB status with either Interferon-Gamma Release Assay (IGRA) blood test or TB skin test.

See the following list of countries or territories with a high incidence of tuberculosis disease.
