At its meeting on February 25, the Board of Trustees approved the operating and capital budget for the 2017-18 academic year. The board also passed resolutions granting emeritus status to retiring faculty and conferring honorary degrees for commencement ceremonies this spring.
The new budget goes into effect June 1, 2017, and provides tuition increases as follows: 4.5 percent in the College of Arts and Sciences, 2.5 percent in the Graduate School of Education and Counseling, and 4 percent in the School of Law. The budget also allocates increased funding for financial aid.
The budget funds several capital projects, include upgrading chemistry research labs in Olin, a refresh and renewal of East Hall, replacing the roofs of Watzek Library and Stewart Hall, and renovations of the Gantenbein Building on the law campus. Work on most projects is scheduled to begin in the summer and to be completed for use in the fall.
With commencements approaching, the trustees approved honorary degrees for Michele Norris, former host of National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered,” who will address degree recipients in the College of Arts and Sciences, and Trustee Mark Dorman, BS ’83, managing director of Endeavour Capital and former board chair of Lewis & Clark; Governor of Oregon Kate Brown JD ’85, who will be honored at Law School commencement ceremony; and Robin DiAngelo, an educator, consultant, and trainer on issues of racial and social justice, who will address degree recipients in the Graduate School of Education and Counseling.
The board passed resolutions granting emeritus status to retiring faculty Curtis Johnson and Tatiana Osipovich in the College of Arts and Sciences, and William Funk in the law school.
New trustee Jennifer Fronk BA ’81 was welcomed to her first meeting. Active in civic affairs, she is currently the fund administrator for the Denver Foundation and the director and president of the Fronk Family Foundation.
The day before the business session, the Board of Trustees engaged in an all-day retreat. The board next meets in May.
