As a community that is committed to fostering a campus environment where students feel a sense of belonging, we want to share a resource that spurred thoughts for our efforts to create a more inclusive and welcoming community.
This Ted Talk titled Sense of Belonging: Students’ Challenges Should Be Effortless Joys by Angela Richard explores the concept of belonging in higher education. It highlights the importance of shared experiences and activities in helping students connect with each other and feel like they belong. The video also acknowledges that it takes time and effort for students to find their place on campus.
This video is a good reminder that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to belonging: What works for one student may not work for another.
