Upon Retirement: Ginger Irwin Moshofsky’s Legacy of Community and Connection
Ginger Moshofsky BA ’83 will retire on August 15, after 11 years as the associate director of Alumni and Parent Engagement.

Ginger Moshofsky BA ’83 arrived at L&C in 1979 from Phoenix, Arizona, and fully embraced the liberal arts experience—double majoring in English and theatre, writing for the Pioneer Log, and studying overseas in the U.S.S.R. and Italy. It was during one of these programs that she met her future husband John Moshofsky BA ’85.
“Ginger has distinguished herself as a unifying force—bringing warmth, optimism, and vision to everything she touched,” Assistant Vice President for Engagement Stephen LeBoutillier BA ’00 said. “Her contributions have shaped the college in countless ways, and we are all better for having worked alongside her.”
What was your path to Lewis & Clark?
I came to L&C from Phoenix, AZ. I wanted to go someplace with a really different vibe from Phoenix. I knew I wanted to study overseas, and I liked the small school atmosphere. When I visited I could see myself being here; it was a great fit for me. It is the only college to which I applied. Good thing I got in!
What did you enjoy most about your work?
There are so many things! I love my colleagues. I love the mission of bringing people together and creating community. I love event planning- the creativity, the stress in planning, and then bringing it all together and enjoying the result.
What changed the most during your time at the college? What remained constant?
It has been such a joy to be here since the arrival of the Posse Scholars who bring such a richness of experience to the school. It is so fun to go to the football games and see the Cheer and Step team. I am happy to have been here through the installation of Dr. Holmes-Sullivan and the founding of the Lewis & Clark Black Alumni Association, the Lewis & Clark Native Alumni Association and the Lewis & Clark Latinx/Hispanic Alumni Association.
What remained constant was the excellent quality of the students and alumni. There is a throughline dating back to at least the 60s of people coming to Lewis & Clark who care about making the world a better place, being curious and interested in what is happening around the globe, and being environmentally conscientious. When I meet someone who went to L&C, I feel like we have an instant bond.
What’s something people might not know about you?
I am one of eight founding members of a community theatre company. In my retirement I hope to do some work as a dramaturg.
What is your favorite place on campus?
I love the Alumni Gatehouse. It is such an adorable building and so warm and inviting to visit. It’s been a great place to work.
What are you most proud of?
I am proud to have been at the helm of Alumni Weekend since 2015. I like to think about all of the things we have done in the last 10 years from special reunions to dinners, feasts and festivals. Alumni Weekend 2018 was a special thrill with the most alumni ever returning to campus to celebrate the sesquicentennial. (I am also proud that I can spell sesquicentennial.)
I am so proud of being the staff liaison to the Lewis & Clark Black Alumni Association, the Lewis & Clark Native Alumni Association, and the Lewis & Clark Latinx/Hispanic Alumni Association. I am so happy to have been here when the leaders rose up to create these groups.
What’s next for you?
My husband and I have a big trip on the horizon. We are going on a bike and cruise vacation in Croatia. In general I look forward to having more time for all those things you always want to do, but can’t because you don’t have time. I want to do more biking, writing, traveling, scrapbooking, and reading. I look forward to more time with my family.
