L&C wins pair of championships at national tournaments
Lewis & Clark’s speech and debate program won a pair of championships at national tournaments. The team of Maltin Tocani BA ’25 and Isabella Moore BA ’26 won the Honors division at the YODL national British Parliamentary debate championships, while the Lewis & Clark contingent at the National Speech Tournament won the team title in the limited entry category.
President Holmes-Sullivan Receives APA Presidential Citation
Dr. Holmes-Sullivan was nominated for her exceptional leadership as a university administrator over her career to improve the lives of students.
Grant Piros ’21 Named 2025 Assistant Principal of the Year
Piros was presented with the award at a surprise assembly in front of a gym full of excited middle school students in the fall, and will be formally honored at COSA’s annual Seaside Conference in June 2025.

NWC CHAMPIONS! #4 Men’s Basketball Wins First NWC Title Since 2002
#4 Lewis & Clark College men’s basketball outscored #3 Whitman College 32-16 over the final 12:12 in regulation, to win the program’s first Northwest Conference Title since 2002.
Billings and DeNise Claim Major Awards, Seven Men’s Swimmers Earn All-Conference Honors
Ezra Billings and Caitlin DeNise are the first NWC Men’s Swimmer and Men’s Coach of the Year in program history.
Music Professor Cox Receives 2025 GRAMMY-Nomination
Visiting Professor of Music John Cox has received a GRAMMY® nomination for his work on the album Clear Voices in the Dark. The album features Francois Poulenc’s Figure Humaine—one of the most powerful anti-fascist artistic expressions from the 20th century—a seven-movement secular cantata written in 1943 during the German occupation of France.
Lewis & Clark Speech/Debate has Golden Weekend at Lower Columbia
For the ninth time in ten years, the Lewis & Clark speech/debate team has earned the Gold medal award from the Northwest Forensics conference for outstanding overall performance as a squad.

Congratulations to Reiko Hillyer whose book A WALL IS JUST A WALL: THE PERMEABILITY OF THE PRISON IN THE TWENTIETH-CENTURY UNITED STATES (Duke University Press, 2024) is a finalist for the 2025 Oregon Book Awards in the category of General Nonfiction.
