From the Office of Equity and Inclusion: A Name Change and a New Position

You may have noticed that the former Office of Diversity and Inclusion is now known as the Office of Equity and Inclusion. This change, recommended by a workgroup convened by President Wiewel last spring, is intended to better reflect Lewis & Clark’s priorities around our values as outlined in our institutional strategic plan, Exploring for the Global Good.

The concepts of equity and inclusion more clearly convey our goal of making sure that everyone at Lewis & Clark has what they need to fully participate in our community. We continue to value diverse identities and perspectives, but we want to make a more intentional commitment to accounting for those differences, celebrating them, and ensuring everyone feels a sense of belonging.

I am excited to be in what is a new role for me at Lewis & Clark, and I’m pleased to announce that the Office of Equity and Inclusion will soon be hiring a new full-time associate dean of equity and inclusion. This new position will also serve as Lewis & Clark’s Title IX Coordinator. My goal is to have someone start early in the spring semester.
