As part of L&C’s membership in The Council of Independent College’s Belong community, we are excited to share the resource “Building Belonging in Higher Education,” by Pearson and WonkHE, which explores foundational factors of belonging and how institutions can lean into them, particularly when momentum matters.

As we head into the season for thanks and gathering, it’s a great time to reflect on how belonging shows up day-to-day—not just in programs, but in our casual interactions and community rhythms.

The article “Building Belonging in Higher Education,” by Pearson and WonkHE highlights how small, consistent actions often have the biggest impact. Consider:

  • What quick, informal check-ins or gestures could foster connection this week?
  • How can we remind our teams that belonging is everyone’s job?
  • Are there upcoming events or transitions where belonging can be made visible?

Simple, everyday efforts often create the most lasting sense of inclusion.
