Filming and Photography at L&C
Lewis & Clark is a private academic campus and historic estate. Filming and photography on college property are limited and require advance review and approval in most cases.
The Office of Conferences and Events coordinates filming and photography requests to ensure projects are compatible with campus operations, protect the privacy and safety of the community, and can be supported responsibly alongside academic programs.
We prioritize professionally managed and adequately funded projects that align with the College’s mission and can be accommodated within available staffing, facilities, and scheduling windows.
Choose the Appropriate Path for Your Project
Please review the options below to determine which guidelines apply.
Commercial and External Filming
Requests for commercially funded filming, advertising, brand campaigns, and large-scale photography projects led by external companies or production teams.
Commercial projects are reviewed on a limited basis and must demonstrate appropriate funding, advance planning, insurance coverage, and scheduling flexibility—particularly during summer, winter, and spring breaks or other low-impact periods.

Portrait Sessions and Wedding Photography
Guidelines for professional portrait, engagement, wedding, and family photography sessions conducted on campus.
Advance scheduling, a permit, and applicable location fees are required. Professional photography without authorization is not permitted.

What to Know Before Submitting a Request
-
Lewis & Clark campuses are private property.
-
Most filming and photography requires advance approval, a permit, and applicable fees.
-
Requests are reviewed based on timing, staffing capacity, operational impact, and institutional alignment.
-
Approval is not guaranteed, and many requests cannot be accommodated during the academic year.
-
Personal, non-commercial photography without tripods, lighting, or other professional equipment generally does not require advance approval.
Why This Matters
Lewis & Clark is first and foremost an active academic community. Class schedules, parking capacity, campus safety considerations, and daily operations limit the college’s ability to host external filming and photography.
Our review process is designed to balance institutional stewardship with thoughtful access—while ensuring that staff capacity, campus operations, and community experience are protected.
