CAS Dean Search

College of Arts and Sciences Dean Bruce Suttmeier’s term as dean will end on July 17, 2026. President Robin Holmes-Sullivan is conducting an internal search for a new dean.

Position Description

CAS faculty members wishing to be considered for the deanship should submit a cover letter and current curriculum vitae to president@lclark.edu by Tuesday, May 26.


The president has appointed an advisory committee to support the process of selecting the next dean. The advisory committee will provide counsel on the college’s leadership needs, recommend an engagement process across CAS, and provide confidential feedback regarding finalists.

The members of the advisory committee are:

  • Kim Brodkin, Professor with Term of Humanities, Director of Gender Studies Symposium, and Director of Ray Warren Symposium on Race and Ethnic Studies
  • Maryann Bylander, Professor of Sociology and Department Chair
  • Reiko Hillyer, Professor of History and Department Chair
  • Todd Lochner, Dr. Robert B. Pamplin Jr. Professor of Government
  • Katie McFaddin, Associate Dean of Student Success and Director of the College Advising Center
  • Alicia Ouellette, Jordan D. Schnitzer Dean of the Law School
  • David Reese, Vice President, General Counsel, Chief of Staff, and Board Secretary
  • Susan Smith, Associate Professor of Music, Director of Piano, and Department Chair
  • Alison Walcott, Administrative Coordinator and Director of L&C Society of Fellows
  • Tamily Weissman-Unni, Professor of Biology and Department Chair
