Deadline to Request Semester Request, Notes, Alternative Text, Accessible Furniture and Exams

For questions regarding academic support and accommodations, students and faculty can contact the Office of Student Accessibility by calling 503-768-7192 or emailing access@lclark.edu. Students and faculty may also schedule an appointment using Accommodate. Phone and Zoom appointments are available with OSA Staff members, if needed.

• Extended Time on Exams : Faculty will be responsible for ensuring that all students who receive extended time on exams are allowed their approved accommodations for any online, timed exam. It is very important for you to verify the extended time accommodation, located on the accommodations letter.
• Take-Home Exams: Accommodations for extended time on exams may also apply to take-home exams. Please consult with the Office of Student Accessibility if you have questions regarding the length of time that you permit for take-home exams.
• Text-to-Speech for Exams: When possible, the Office of Student Accessibility recommends that professors send exams to students as Word documents. Word documents are the most accessible/readable file types for students who utilize accessible text formats. OCR a .pdf to ensure accessibility. Saving a .doc as a .pdf may not ensure that document is accessible. 
• CAS Exam Proctoring : The OSA Testing Center is currently proctoring in-person exams during the hours of 8:15 am to 4:30 pm. Deadline to request exam proctoring is by Noon, two business days before the exam.

Logistics

Notetaking can take on many forms. The Office of Student Accessibility (OSA) embraces the principles of Universal Design around notetaking. For those classes where notetaking is an integral part of learning, we encourage professors to discuss notetaking with the entire class, about what role it plays in student learning, and what good notes look like. Who qualifies?

Note taking is an important skill and an imperative part of some classes. Several disabilities related to auditory processing, graphomotor difficulties, memory, and concentration can make synchronous notetaking in class inaccessible.

Returning students seeking residential accommodations for the next academic year must engage in OSA’s process, typically by mid-April. Keep an eye on Campus Living’s website for the deadline.

Here are the steps to start that process:

• Review the LC Residential Accommodation Documentation Form

• Talk to your provider about specific housing accommodations that will support you

• Share the LC Residential Accommodation Documentation with your provider and ask them to complete it and return it to you and upload it to your Accommodate Account.

•  Schedule a Zoom or in person appointment with OSA

During your initial appointment, an OSA staff member will engage with you in an interactive process around your disability, how your disability impacts you in a residential setting, along with exploring reasonable accommodations to support you. It’s helpful when documentation from your provider is submitted before scheduling an initial appointment with OSA. Common residential accommodations.

Room selection: To apply for housing, go to the Campus Living housing portal. Fill out all the forms and make any requests on which buildings you would like to be in. We will send to campus living the approved accommodation for the required accommodations. If you are approved for a single room, you do not need to put any information down in terms of roommate requests.

We know that pregnancy can impact attendance and coursework completion. Pregnant students have the right to pregnancy-related absences and medically required treatments and appointments should be excused. Consideration for flexibility with assignment deadlines during pregnancy-related absences is an expectation.
