d/Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students
The Office of Student Accessibility is committed to supporting the academic success and inclusion of students who are d/Deaf or hard of hearing. We collaborate with students and instructors to ensure access through reasonable accommodations, guidance, and support.
In academic settings, students may utilize a range of accommodations such as American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters, real-time captioning (CART), transcription services, assistive listening devices, and note-taking. Accommodation needs are assessed on an individual basis, in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Students are encouraged to practice self-advocacy and communicate their accommodation needs to our office as early as possible, particularly when services require coordination with external professionals (e.g., ASL interpreters, real-time captioning). Advance notice allows for timely and effective implementation of services.
Additional resources on self-advocacy and navigating higher education as a d/Deaf or hard-of-hearing student are available through the National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes.
We invite students who are planning to attend or visit Lewis & Clark to contact the Office of Student Accessibility at 503-768-7192 or access@lclark.edu so we can begin working together to ensure equitable access.
Student Accessibility is located in room 206 of Albany Quadrangle.
