Other Disabilities

The Office of Student Accessibility works in partnership with students who have a wide range of disabilities, including, but not limited to, epilepsy, autoimmune conditions, multiple sclerosis, psychological disabilities, and other chronic health or learning-related disabilities.

Our process is collaborative. We carefully review the documentation provided, engage in an in-depth conversation with the student about their access needs, and work together to determine reasonable accommodations that will support full and equitable participation in academic programs at Lewis & Clark.

Two key elements guide this process:

  1. Clear, relevant documentation that includes information from a qualified professional about the student’s condition and its functional impact in an academic setting.

  2. Student self-advocacy and engagement—we encourage and support students in playing an active role in the accommodation process, including communication with faculty when needed.

After documentation has been reviewed and accommodations have been discussed and approved, our office prepares an official notification letter for instructors each semester upon the student’s request. This letter outlines the approved accommodations without disclosing the student’s specific diagnosis, in line with FERPA and ADA confidentiality guidelines.

We recognize that each student’s experience is unique. While we have supported a wide variety of accommodations, each request is assessed individually through an interactive process. We encourage prospective and current students to connect with us early in their academic planning. Please contact the Office of Student Accessibility at 503-768-7192 or access@lclark.edu so we can begin the conversation and support your access to a successful college experience.
