Juneteenth Commemorative Picnic with OEI

Join the Office of Equity and Inclusion on Wednesday, June 18, at 12:30 p.m. for cool drinks and sweet treats on the Manor House Patio, for a commemorative Juneteenth picnic. Bring your own picnic lunch!

May 30, 2025

June 19, 1865 marks the arrival of federal troops in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the freedom of enslaved Black people—over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It stands as a powerful symbol of emancipation and the continued pursuit of justice and equality. Lewis & Clark College commemorates Juneteenth by closing campus so the L&C community can reflect on the importance of this day.

Because L&C is closed on Juneteenth, the Office of Equity and Inclusion invites you to commemorate Juneteenth in community on Wednesday, June 18, with an on campus picnic. OEI will provide drinks and sweet treats from Fat Cupcake, a local black owned bakery. Please bring your own lunch and a blanket or lawn chair to the Manor House Lawn.

Everyone is invited to join in honoring this important holiday.
