Faculty and staff (CAS, grad, and law) are invited to join the Office of the President this academic year as we learn together to engage deeper with our partnership with Albina Vision Trust. This is a time to learn, reflect, and come together as we move from individual actions to a broader institutional relationship with community partners.
The colloquium has three goals:
- Delve into the history, context, and current state of the Albina neighborhood
- Build capacity around community engagement
- Connect with folks across L&C
We will have a series of events throughout the year, some of which are focused on Albina and others of which have a more general theme of community partnerships. Please join us for as many as you can!
Interested in working with Albina Vision Trust Form?
In addition to the events below, the Office of the President is soliciting ideas for research, programming, class-based or workshop projects to take place with residents in the newly opened Albina Vision Trust apartment building, Albina One, in Spring 2026. If you have an idea or are interested in carrying out a project related to your class or research, please fill out this form by Friday, October 17. Our team will read through the proposals and work with Albina Vision Trust to prioritize the projects.
Reading Discussion + Short film screening
Do you want to learn more about the history and context of the Albina neighborhood in Portland? Join your colleagues from across campus to read, watch, and discuss this history. (These two sessions will be the same, so choose whichever one fits your schedule better.)
Please read “Bleeding Albina” (linked here) before attending. We’ll start by watching a 25-minute film and will then discuss it and the article. Bring any questions, comments or ideas you have!
Albina Music Trust Community Archive Panel
Albina Music Trust is the only full service community archive in the United States, dedicated to the restoration of a Black community’s historical musical culture. Join us in listening to a panel with Albina Music Trust archivists and musicians on Tuesday, October 14, 3:30 p.m., in Miller 105.
Albina Vision Trust + Lewis & Clark = A Transformational Education Partnership
Join us on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. to learn how the Albina Vision Trust and Lewis & Clark partnership will weave education and opportunity into the built and cultural fabric of Lower Albina, a historically Black neighborhood in inner Northeast Portland, as part of the largest restorative redevelopment effort in America. (Please register by October 20 for this event.)
