Logos

Our logo is the core of our visual identity. Its job is to create brand awareness, recognition, and trust.

Our Logos

Our logo is the shield. Lewis & Clark Logo Shield Lewis & Clark shield

The current Lewis & Clark shield was created in 1992, the year the institution celebrated the concurrent milestones of its 125th anniversary, 50 years on the present campus, and 30 years of undergraduate overseas study programs.

While incorporating traditional heraldic elements, our shield uses abstract forms, allowing for individual interpretation. The fluid curves of the design use contemporary economy of line to recall features of the natural landscape of the Pacific Northwest, such as the Columbia and Willamette Rivers.

Each of our three schools has its own version of the shield, “locked up” with the school’s name:

When using our logos, please:

  • Maintain their proportions; don’t stretch or compress the images.
  • Keep with the primary orange and black color scheme, or use it in solid black, orange, or white.
  • Give the logo some breathing room. Let it shine!
  • Use the shield on its own if your communication clearly says “Lewis & Clark” elsewhere.

If you are not sure which file is the right one for your purposes or if you would like general guidance on how to best use our logo, reach out to Art Director Mat Bowers
